Alaa Mansour is a Lebanese artist, filmmaker and archivist who lives and works between Marseille and Beirut. Her work examines the history of violence and the power of images in the age of necropolitics. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, she explores the concepts of the sacred and the sublime along with their potential for horror. Her first documentary, “Aïnata” (2018), shot in the south of Lebanon, fuelled and inspired her passion for archiving, and was screened at several festivals. She is currently head of iconographic research for Bidayat, a quarterly literary and cultural magazine published in Beirut. She was recently nominated for the Han Nefkens Foundation - Fundació Antoni Tàpies Video Art Production Award 2020.
