Founded in 1935, the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia is a key player in the contemporary scientific and cultural landscape, as well as being a benchmark for Italian and international cinema. It is divided into two main sections, the Scuola Nazionale di Cinema, which has been providing excellent training in filmmaking professions for the last twenty-four years, and the Cineteca Nazionale, one of the oldest and most important film libraries in the world. The Scuola Nazionale di Cinema organises specialised courses in every cinematography and audiovisual discipline, and its mission is to develop cinematographic art and techniques. It is a cultural incubator bringing together people from every cinematographic field – producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, directors of photography, set designers, film editors, musicians and sound technicians as well as digital film experts, academics, teachers and students from all over the world. The School is based in Rome in the Cinecitta district, with branches in Italy’s main regions: Turin for animation, Milan for communication and institutional directing, Aquila for historical reporting and current affairs, Lecce for heritage and Palermo for documentaries.
