He devises new spaces and new timescales…” (Carlo Chatrian, April 2011, Visions du Réel) The filmmaker Giovanni Cioni has lived between Paris where he was born in 1962, Brussels where he trained, Lisbon, Naples and Tuscany, where he now lives. He studied Documentary Directing at the University de Paris X and African Civilisations at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He has launched several direction and production studios, Qwazi Qwazi Film in Brussels and then in 2005, the Laboratorio Uccellacci in Tuscany. Various retrospectives have been devoted to his work, including Visions du Réel in Nyon in 2011 and Annecy Cinéma Italien in 2019. Among his films that have been spotted and awarded prizes at international festivals are “Non è sogno” (Locarno 2019, Festival dei Popoli 2019), “Viaggio a Montevideo” (Cinéma du Réel 2016), “Dal Ritorno” (Cinéma du Réel 2015), and “Per Ulisse” (Visions du Réel 2013, Festival dei Popoli 2013).
