Alice Diop was born into a Senegalese family in Aulnay-sous-Bois on the outskirts of Paris in 1979. She has made several documentaries in which she offers a new perspective, both sociological and cinematographic, of the neighbourhood where she grew up, diversity and immigration. Her six films are: “La Tour du monde” (2005), “Clichy pour l'exemple” (2005), “Les Sénégalaises et la Sénégauloise” (2007), “La Mort de Danton” (2011), “La Permanence” (2016) – winner of the French Competition at the Cinéma du Réel festival in 2016 – and “Vers la tendresse” (2016), which won a Cesar for the Best Short in 2017.
