Born in Buenos Aires in 1979, Cecilia Bengolea trained in urban dance and studied Anthropological Dance and then Philosophy and Art History at the University of Buenos Aires. Since 2001, she has been living and working in Europe, taking part as a dancer, writer or choreographer in various experiments and creations. In 2011, she co-directed two short films in dialogue with Levi-Strauss’ book “Tristes Tropiques”: “La Beauté (tôt) vouée à se défaire” with Donatien Veismann and “Cri de Pilaga” with Juliette Bineau. She works with artists including Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Monika Gintersdorfer, Knut Klassen, Erika Miyauchi and Damion BG Dancerz. With Jeremy Deller, she co-directed the film “RythmAssPoetry” (2015), followed by “Bombom’s Dream” in 2016. In the spring of 2018, Bengolea created “Insect Train” with Florentina Holzinger, a collaborative piece devoted to the interface between nature and the artifice of the human body.
