Françoise est ermite. Elle vit dans une forêt du sud de la France depuis 43 ans. Religieuse catholique, elle est reconnue par l'Eglise mais ne dépend d'aucun ordre. Au fil des saisons, elle ouvre sa porte à la réalisatrice et lui livre les fondements de son parcours spirituel. L'image et la parole dessinent les contours d'une expérience qui s'enracine dans la tradition mystique chrétienne et dont le ressort principal est une lutte avec son propre « moi ».
