Born in Puglia, Italy, Agostino Ferrente took a degree in Film Studies before becoming part of Ipotesi Cinema, the laboratory headed by Ermanno Olmi. In 2001, he founded the Apollo 11 collective in Rome to save the cinema of the same name that was due to be turned into a bingo hall, transforming it into one of the city’s most vibrant cultural venues. In 2002 with the musician Mario Tronco, he set up the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, the largest multi-ethnic group in the world, which inspired him to make a documentary about it. He has worked with various famous filmmakers including Vittorio De Seta, Alberto Grifi, Silvano Agosti and Margherita Hack. In 2013, he presented “Le cose belle” at the Mostra de Venise, co-directed with Giovanni Piperno. His latest movie “Selfie” won him a large number of awards and selections in festivals.
