Aldo Lee was born in South Africa and studied at the University of Witwatersrand. He began his career in 1993 with the drama “Sacrifice”, winning the prize for Best Short at South Africa’s film festival. He has made several documentaries in France and was awarded Best Documentary prize for “La Double vie de Dona Ermelinda” (52 mn) at Montreal’s Vues d'Afrique Festival and an award for “Fermiers Blancs, Terre Noire" (52 mn) at the Festival of the Dhow Countries in Tanzania. In 2010, he spent 4 years in Japan where he made the short “Fukushima mon amour”, selected at several short film festivals in countries such as France, Germany, South Africa, Italy and Switzerland. He returned to Japan in 2016 and made “Mimi”, a 20-minute short. He has also recorded numerous dance performances and worked with choreographers to create images for their shows as well as shooting artists’ films.
