Blaise Perrin was born in Fontaine les Dijon (France) in 1982. After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles in 2009, the same year he became Laureate of the Acamémie des Beaux-Arts and, in that role, spent a two-year residence at the Casa de Velazquez in Madrid. During his time in Spain, he produced two photographic series, “Tierras Altas” and “L’Ouvrage”. In 2012, he began to direct his research towards Japan and made the documentary “The Round” (2018) about the suicide prevention initiative organised by Yukio Shige, a retired police officer. In 2020, he became Laureate of the Villa Kujoyama as a filmmaker and spent three months in Kyoto making a new movie that will focus on the people whose lives have been saved by Shige. His photographic and documentary work takes him to isolated, abandoned and anachronistic places such as quarries, caves, breakers’ yards and deserted villages, encountering people who are “out of the ordinary”.
