Olivier Babinet became a well-known figure in France with the series “Le Bidule” on Canal+ in 1999. In 2008, he wrote and directed his first short, “C’est plutôt genre Johnny Walker”. The film won several prizes at festivals, including the Special Jury Prize at Clermont-Ferrand. His first feature, “Robert Mitchum est mort” (2010), co-directed with photographer Fred Kihn, was screened at the ACID programme during the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, and also won the Grand Prix at the Angers First Film European festival. As well as being a scriptwriter and director, Olivier Babinet works with middle-school students in Aulnay-sous-Bois outside Paris. This collaboration led to the teenagers making 8 fantastic short films, shooting a music video for the band Tomorrow’s World and the documentary “Swagger” (2016). The film was presented during the ACID programme during the 2016 Cannes Film festival. It won several awards in festivals and was selected for the Césars and the Prix Lumière. In 2019, Babinet directed the romantic comedy “Poissonsexe”, which received a special prize at FIFIB, independent film festival in Bordeaux.
