An anus like a mouth recites a poem. The film opens with this obscene, shocking, eccentric and funny image. It sets the tone for the psychoanalysis behind closed doors where Marcelo, decked out in a silk dressing gown or completely naked, describes his life. He lets us into his head and tells us about his father’s and brother’s toxic masculinity, which he’s always rejected, of his games with his lovers, his escape from solitude and his fascination for dead artists who comfort him. He talks non-stop, but also shows us a lot. He reveals his body from every angle during daily rituals and in dreamlike scenes where he acts out his sexual fantasies. We wonder if it’s by showing what shouldn’t be shown that he allows himself to say what can’t be said. This idea reaches its climax at the end of the film, leaving us with the question: what constitutes obscenity?
