Shevaun Mizrahi shot “Distant Constellation” alone, over several years, which taught her to really see her characters, as though her eyes had got used to the place like eyes getting used to the dark, noticing the details and spotting potential beauty. An assuredly “meditative” movie, where the present constantly seems to be trying to make a place for itself between the past (memories) and the future (worries). And it’s during these moments when the director manages to capture the present – a childish prank, the piano, a hypnosis session – that the poetry reaches us.
