The scene is set: East London’s Shoreditch, home to the film’s director. The actors have been found: ten roguish Englishmen and women well-versed in the techniques of the theatre of the oppressed learned with Adrian Jackson and the Cardboard Citizens Company, ready to paint the town red and shake up the streets of this sleepy town. Together, they stage a play inspired by Vittorio de Sica’s Bicycle Thieves, performed in a community garden. They demonstrate to the sound of “People united will never be defeated" in Piccadilly Circus. They enact moments of everyday life that aren’t always that fun. What gradually emerges is a portrait of an exuberant and continual resistance of the norms established by societies that are far too set in their ways.
