Cinquième titre de la Collection "Cinéastes d’aujourd’hui" ce documentaire évoque quelques uns des 40 films réalisés par Chantal Akerman. Cinéaste expérimentale, nomade, elle nous fait partager son parcours cinématographique qui ne cesse de questionner le sens de son existence au risque de chercher son public ou de s’y confronter. Avec sa monteuse, Claire Atherton, elle précise les origines de son langage et de ses partis pris esthétiques. Un cinéma vivant, novateur et qui continue à influencer nombre d’artistes, comme en témoigne le réalisateur américain Gus van Sant.
Among the talented young filmmakers of tomorrow, the Locarno film festival also puts the history of cinema in the spotlight. When her last film, No Home Movie, was screened in the international competition, the festival also programmed I Don’t Belong Anywhere..., allowing us to dwell on the very singular and innovative film work of Chantal Akerman. An opportunity to reconnect with the “times” and “places” that are so characteristic of the recently deceased filmmaker’s work, and marvel at them.
