Sometimes great documentaries are born of very simple ideas. Joséphine Drouin Viallard is intrigued by the whimsical comings-and-goings of a neighbour in Paris’ 18th arrondissement. He waves his phone in the air, then looks at it, then waves it around again. It’s strange, and our investigator makes up stories about his odd actions and the imaginary worlds they inspire. Turning these actions that don’t belong to her (and despite not having the keys to understand them) into instant poetry, the director invites us to take a closer look at the things around us. She has fun, playing with the lens with unbridled curiosity, setting out to encounter a life that’s not her own. Jury Award winner at the 2020 documentary film festival En Ville !
